6th Avenue (on the Frontage Road west of Sheridan), is Denver Westword’s Best Thrift Store for 2011 and was recently remodeled at the end of August by a dedicated team of cat care Society volunteers, purchasers and donors. Cajun’s Closet Manager Dawn Risner recounts, “We pulled up carpet, painted floors and walls, took down window treatments, built new displays, rearranged the library, and last although not least, updated the front room suitably timed for fall shopping and our yearly Halloween Book Sale.” Further, according to Risner : “With Halloween right around the corner, we are all thinking spooks, poltergeists, and creepy crawlies. The latest and greatest library at Cajun’s Closet has a fabulous spread of Science Fiction and Fantasy books to make a choice from. As a keen reader myself, I'm able to make it obvious that a good book about a killer clown will do a lot to creep you out on a cloudy night. Even if you have never been a big reader we will find something to concern you in the many thousands of books at Cajuns.” Remember the other great shopping at Cajun’s Closet while checking out the Halloween Book Sale.

Cajun’s has great collectibles, home items, jewelry, and a sizeable stock of garments. Regular hours are Wed. – Saturday, nine a.m. To 5 p.m. Referencing from Westword’s 2011 “Best Of” overview : “Cajun’s, named for an one-eyed orange tabby who originally wandered the place, has for a while been dealing used clothing and other products in support of the Moggy Care Society.

But its embodiment of the last few years, since doubling the store's space in 2005, really shows what good management can do for a place… Rebates are offered for donations of canned cat food, and it doesn't hurt the funds raised there go to help Kitty Care Society inhabitants at the adjacent no-kill, cage-free shelter.” Link to the overview : press releases distribution About Cajun’s Closet In 1995, the proven fact that a place already existed on the CCS then new 6th Avenue property was a bonus – it was refurbished, countless dead trees and shrubs were removed, a carpark added, and Cajun’s Closet was born. The new thrift store was named after the CCS’s mascot, Cajun, when it opened in February of 1995. Cajun, a big, longhaired, orange tabby boy was the cat in residence at the thrift shop until 2002 when his health started to fail.

After losing one eye and becoming blind in the other it was time for him to retire. Now Kitty Care’s “shop cats” are moggies from the shelter that are accessible for adoption.
