The poet T.S Eliot Eliot called cats creatures that households depend upon, and that is somewhat true. A cat that is friendly and happy boosts any family. The downside to cats, however, is they can be hard to deal with. You should keep reading to learn how you can become a better pet owner.
Cats love to get into tight, small spaces. If they have a collar on, this can be dangerous. If your pet is wearing a breakaway collar, it’ll detach if it’s pulled too hard. This can save all “nine” of your cat’s lives.
Do not use dog products on your cat. Cats don’t like dog products. This particularly applies to flea products. Flea products that are intended for a dog can kill a cat. Once you use flea prevention products on your dog, it should be kept separately from the cat for hours.
Prevent your cat from chewing on electrical cords by spraying bitter apple on them. Keep your cords covered if you feel like your cat is hellbent on chewing them. If you have loose electrical cords, you can bundle them up and stow them away in a cardboard tube (think toilet paper or paper towel rolls). Put your electronics away so your cat is not tempted to chew on the cords.
Give your cat plenty of love and affection. They give lots of affection and need some in return. Like humans, cats want to feel wanted and needed. They probably would like to feel as though they are a wanted part of the family.
Be considerate of your cat’s preferences while traveling. Although you may love singing loudly to your favorite songs while driving, your cat would probably prefer softer sounds. Try turning down your tunes or keeping it off to make your cat’s trip better.
Little kids shouldn’t be left alone near cats. It is important to show your child how to approach and handle a cat. Give them examples of how to be gentle with it and what should and should not be done. Cats have weaker bones than dogs do, and must be treated accordingly.
Make a tablecloth for your cats. Some cats prefer removing their food from the bowl and eating it on the side. Sometimes, this results in food outside the bowl that you have to clean up. To make clean up a breeze, use a place mat underneath the bowl or a piece of fabric. You’ll be able to pick it up easily and shake the excess food into the trash.
Being the owner of a cat isn’t always the easiest thing to be, but it is very rewarding. These tips will improve your relationship no matter what type of cat you own. You’ll hear less meowing and more purring then.
